"Under the sun of Liguria" Beata Murawska
Liguria is a land in northern Italy, whose capital is Genoa, a former competitor of Venice, maybe not so beautiful, but very intriguing. A narrow strip of land squeezed between the sea and mountains, is famous for the best Italian oil and basil pesto, of course.
Why do I mention this on the occasion of Beata Murawska's exhibition? For, for several years, it was Liguria that became the new home of the artist who had lived in Podkowa Leśna. Is the new place of life revealed in her latest paintings? In many yes, especially landscapes. You can feel it in them without the slightest doubt. The sky, with clouds in pinks and oranges, seems to float high; the horizon goes down, it opens, the clouds get bigger, the landscape is even more monumental; it is a view from above, from the mountains above the sea, from the place where Murawska lives. The landscape is growing, the paintings gain breath, on an aerial perspective. Legia enters the paintings, just as the sun seems to shine strongly, which shines through the clouds that create fanciful patterns that the artist only records. We would like to think that way, but we don't really know that. Perhaps she creates them herself from imagination, inspired only by a new place of life.
At the same time, Murawska still paints characteristic fields of flowers, tulips especially for her. For years they have been an emblematic figure of her art, it is easy to understand that she does not want to give up them, because she identifies strongly with them. To some extent, they are her hallmark, and at the same time probably a magnet for customers who like these floral rugs.
One can feel great freedom in painting Beata Murawska. This freedom and repainting are extremely important, because pleasure is a feeling that should not leave viewers looking at canvases that primarily want to give viewers joy and aesthetic delight. These are certainly light paintings, but also very sophisticated color compositions and so should be looked at.
